What Meditation Did For Me:
Meditation did two things for me: firstly, it got me to be more present to the moment, to have a better appreciation of the world around me, nature etc. Secondly, it made me clearer. By this I mean, clearer about the problems I was having in life. The reason for this is very simple, a lot of our time is spent distracting ourselves away from an issue we are having, for instance, looking at our phones when we feel awkwardness etc. Meditation removes all stimulus/ distractions so you have a clearer sense of what you have been trying to distract yourself away from. For me personally, this was the fact that I was socially anxious, having problems socialising, being unable to form romantic relationships and also being bad at confronting people or dealing with confronting situations. So what meditation will not do is solve these problems! Sorry to say. But what it does do, or at least did for me, is make you aware of them. This may sound stupid, "well I am aware of them", but I wasn't, I was so trying to distract myself that I was kind of blind to them, before I 'woke' up as it were.
You should be aware that this process of waking up is a painful one, but also provided me with one of the greatest benefits of meditation which is a chance to change.
Meditation made me more present to the moment and appreciative of the world around me, it gave me more moments, day by day, of feeling a deep sense of contentment, it also gave me a great opportunity to change which I am truly grateful for and that is what i'm offering you. So if you understand that then lets get cracking!
Basic Course Outline:
Step 1- Gain Control. One way to tame the mind is by giving it a direction to go in. We do this by choosing an object to concentrate on.
Step 2- Wholeness. The mind usually likes to loop over and over again on one specific thing. For example, say you're having a bad hair day, the mind will go over and over again ("oh my hair looks stupid, I look ugly etc."). It will become so obsessed by one aspect of your appearance that you will almost become blind to the whole of how you look. Step two shows you how to focus on the whole of something in order to get the mind not to focus on specific things about you or your situation that are not so great.
Step 3- Make mediation easier. Meditation can be tough and that's why I'd like to make it as easy as possible for you. Here I give a few tips to make the experience of meditating easier.
About me:
Hi, my name is Harry and i'm a yoga and meditation teacher from the U.K. I'm slightly different from the normal meditation instructor, in that I do not think meditation is a goal in itself. Instead, it provides a solid base from which you can pursue other things in your life. Therefore, my instructions are simple and practical, and what i have laid out in this course is exactly how i practice myself and what has been shown to be useful to me.
