Okinawan Goju-Ryu Karate

Goju-ryu is a traditional Okinawan style of karate founded in 1930 by Chōjun Miyagi. This style blends Okinawan and Chinese martial arts into a practice that incorporates both circular and linear movements into its curriculum, combining hard striking attacks such as kicks and closed hand punches with softer open hand circular techniques for attacking, blocking, and controlling the opponent.

This in-depth course covers the basic postures, blocks, strikes, and techniques for eight traditional Okinawan Goju-Ryu katas.

The following katas are presented:

Sanchin ichi

Sanchin ni

Gekisai ichi

Gekisai ni

Saifa

Seiunchin

Shisochin

Sanseriu

Each kata is demonstrated three times. Firstly, the kata is demonstrated from the front (judges view) with an explanation of the techniques. Then it is performed at full speed from the front, and finally from the side so that the student can fully understand the kata and its applications. This course is an ideal teaching aid for review, rank testing, competition, and self-defense.

Grandmaaster Michael A. Stelzer holds several advanced ranks (10th Dan and above) in the styles of Tang Soo Do, Tae Kwon DO, Kali/Arnis, Kobudo, Kung Fu, Karate, and other various styles of martial arts.
