This course is based on a video produced by the American Montessori Society. A.M.S. produced this program to help parents implement a Montessori parenting philosophy. It is not about how to teach the Montessori curriculum at home, but rather draws on Montessori's observations to make parents aware of some of the basic needs of small children. In addition to the A.M.S. video, Virginia Varga, one of the leading voices on infant and toddler care for A.M.S. is interviewed about what Montessori called the sensitive periods of movement, order and language. This course is presented by Dr. Patricia Hart. Dr. Hart is certified in early childhood Montessori education and has taught at the university level for over 30 years.
