Project Description
Assignment:
Your class project is to record yourself attempting to read either Arabic texts that you have encountered yourself or some of those supplied in the project resources section (see 'Reading Practice Examples').
Materials:
Any good Arabic materials, recording software, a decent mic, and your wonderful new Arabic voice!
Instructions:
Review all the materials covered in the modules and lessons ensuring that you give the stories at the end a good going over to help fluency of reading. When ready, find the specific piece of literature that you are attempting to read, sit comfortably, click record, and give it a good bash.
Sharing Your Work:
Share your final readings and progress shots with the class by uploading to the "Your Project" section. If you are using your own materials, please ensure that you take a snapshot of the materials that you're reading or attach a link to the resource and upload it along with your recording so that I and everybody else can see what you're attempting to read.
If you're using the accompanying resources 'Reading Practice Examples', be sure to mention the title of the piece so we have some references. There are six stories in these examples and they are:
1. fit-tariiq (Along the path)
2. Al-Qaadii-'aadil (The Just Judge)
3. ziyaaratun ila-rriyaaDh (Visiting Riyadh)
4. Khadiijatu bintu Khuwaylid (Khadijah the daughter of Khuwaylid)
5. hadiyyatu-nnajaaH (The gift of success)
6. AssiHHatu bayna-lmaaDii wa-lHaadir (health in the past and the present)
Some of these stories are quite long and so don't feel like you have to send a recording of the whole story - any portion that you're able to do will be well received.
I will, of course, be ready to review and assess your recordings and give you helpful feedback.
If you have any questions or need more tips, please let me know! I'm happy to help!
General Resources
I have also attached accompanying materials that complement and support the videos in this course in general. They appear at specific points in the course but can equally be downloaded and studied separately.
They include:
1. Transliterations
2. The Three Forms Summary
3. Arabic Writing Practice Pack
