How to start a business, from scratch, without taking a huge risk, or having quit your 9-to-5 until it makes sense to do so

Many people would like to start their own business, but don’t, because they don’t want to take a huge risk to do so.

Here’s a great approach to start that part-time or full-time business you’ve always wanted to start, without having to take out a loan, quit your day job (if you don’t want to, or you need the income), or otherwise take unnecessary risks.

So – if you're like most people, you’re probably thinking, “OK - great… BUT HOW EXACTLY WOULD I DO THAT?”

I asked myself the same question when I started my business back in 2006.


I ran a little experiment and within 30 days, I had my first paying client, and then another, and then another. I got those first three clients without investing a penny in marketing or advertising.


I outline exactly how I did it in this course, but I’ll give you a 30,000 foot view here:

Step 1: You want to make sure that the marketplace is already buying what you’re wanting to offer.

That means, make sure there is plenty of competition in the marketplace, and realize that that is a good thing, not something to shy away from. Because now you’re going to look to see where the market is being underserved, or look for a way you can offer your product/service in a way your competition isn’t. In other words, you’re going to zig where they’re zagging.


Step 2: Make sure that the business you start centers around something you’re skilled, talented and/or gifted at doing, and that it’s also something you’re extremely excited about offering.

Why? Because it’s going to take a lot of work and effort to get it off the ground, and you must go all in and commit to making it work. You can’t dabble if you want to succeed.


Step 3: This is probably the number one thing I learned about starting my business. It has allowed me, and it will allow you, to have the business pay for itself as you build it, rather than having to risk your own hard earned money.

I refer to it as “growing into business“ as opposed to “going into business.“

It’s simply this… Take the product or service that you’re thinking about offering to the marketplace, and go out and serve 10 people with it, for free. While you’re serving those 10 for free, collect social proof (testimonials, pictures, videos, case studies) that your product/services works and is awesome. Once you get to the 11th person, they should be asking you if they can buy it.


Step 4: You must be able to increase your influence with people because you have to be able to offer your products and services in a way that they “want” to buy them. That means you have to be able to understand exactly what it is they value, and how they want to receive what you’re offering.

One of the biggest mistakes aspiring business owners and entrepreneurs make is to bring something to the marketplace and position it in a way that is irrelevant and doesn’t matter to potential customers.

Even if you have a great product/service, if you don’t present it the right way, no one is going to buy it.

Believe me, I beat my head against that wall for years before I figured this important fact out.
