This course explains the historical processes that led to the successful introduction of Christianity to the people of Ireland. It provides an overview of the main geo-political events that contributed to the formation of 5th century Irish society. There is an explanation of the factors that led to the mission of Saint Patrick in Ireland in the context of the struggles inside the Christian church for hegemony by the Roman Catholic Church. Details are provided of the work that Saint Patrick undertook to spread the Christian faith, of the strategies he used to achieve his objectives, and of the methods he used.
