Every language has its own sound. It has its own distinct vocabulary, structure and rhythm that make it different from other languages. In this course you will learn more about what makes English sound unique.

English is a smooth and fluid language so you need to know how we connect letter sounds from one word to the next. English is a melodious language so you will how to learn to use intonation and stress properly in sentences. This will help you avoid flat, monotonous speech and help you develop a standard North American accent.

English is a powerful language. Learn how to pause and chunk information and use emphasis. The techniques that you will learn in this course will enable you to speak more clearly and be more easily understood. This is is helpful in everyday conversation and even more useful if you need to communicate effectively in a business or academic context.

In the course you will:

Review Canadian/North American pronunciation; and learn how to pronounce especially difficult English words and sounds.

Improve your fluency with speed reading, learning language in chunks and avoiding direct translation from your native language into English.

Learn how to use how to use various types of stress, both stress within words and stress within sentences, the way native speakers do.

Become more proficient and effective in everyday conversation, business situations or in exams.

End the "communication breakdown" that happens when you know what words to say but can't seem to make other people understand you.
