Exploring Cultural Anthropology

The is an introductory course for students interested in cultural anthropology. The course consists of 13 sections in which we will explore:

• What Cultural Anthropology is
• Culture and Culture Change
• Enculturation
•  Getting Food
• Economic Systems
• Kinship
• Marriage
•  Religion
• Sex and Gender
• Race
• Globalization
• Using Cultural Anthropology

By the end of the course, you will have an understanding of the depth of topics covered within anthropology and encouraged to explore your interests beyond the course.

The course is composed primarily of power point lectures and followed by brief and interactive "reflect and connect" activities. Note that these do vary by each section, and may have activities to try in your life or a TED talk to watch. These activities may enhance your experience in the course, but they are completely voluntary.

This course approaches cultural anthropology in an interactive way and requires a journal or notebook where you can keep track of your thoughts and work. You will get much more out of it if you take the time to reflect on topics within the course.
