In this course student will get to learn about basic knowledge on design of beam as per Indian standard 456 : 2000

Design of any structural member is most important. the structural elements like beams, columns, slabs and foundation connect together at a joint and make one frame is know as structure. which has to resist all the loads occurs on it. Transferring of load is from slab to beam, beam to column and column to foundation. so for resisting all the loads we need to analysis and design of structural member with a specific method as per the Indian Standard code, which is basically explain in this course. Here the structural element like beam is being explain very briefly as per the Indian Standard code. The methods used for design is working stress method, limit state method and ultimate load method. All the method are usable but the limit state method is most appropriate method. there are various types beams like Singly reinforced beam, Doubly reinforced beam and Tee beam. The stress - Strain curve is explain in detail for all the type of beam, The Failure of beam also explain very briefly like URS section, ORS section and balanced section. To find the depth of neutral axis, to calculate the moment on the beam due to load and to provide reinforcement to resist the moment.
