When I first read about the law of least effort, it appeared in Deepak Chopra’s book, Seven Spiritual Laws of Success. It read, “Nature’s intelligence functions with effortless ease, with carefreeness, harmony, and love. And when we harness the forces of harmony, joy, and love, we create success and good fortune with effortless ease.” Seeing myself as a scientist, I decided to practice this law deliberately. Those who know me well—know that I am a task-driven methodological person who thrives in the concept of “getting it done.” I believe in the concept of “the process” and have had nightmares of losing my book of standard operating procedures on the basics of life.
I reached that point in my life where I began to question all this hard work. And it felt like the harder I worked, the more I became stressed and unfilled. I constantly felt like I was in a rat race going nowhere fast. I did not want to be one of those people who work hard for 50 years, only to retire waiting on a monthly check from social security, rocking in my chair, and not having the strength to do anything else.
