The book cover is very important because it is the first and the first element seen by potential readers. Whether for a fiction or non-fiction book, or simply a notebook, it is essential to design a cover that works. There are thus rules to respect concerning colors, images or typography. You can publish your books on Amazon and other platforms, either for an ebook, or for a paper book. This requires the creation of a cover which can be done by different software. If you're setting up a business on Amazon Kindle, knowing how to create your own covers is extremely useful. You can also create covers for other people.

Softwares

Two software will be used in this course. Canva which is a free online tool with a pro version, extremely useful, which allows you to quickly create covers by a click and drop system of elements, with a vast library of images. Gimp which is a versatile graphics software, self-service and therefore free. It also allows you to create covers with advanced features. It also allows you to make 3D book presentations.

Training

In this course, you will begin to see the theoretical basics for cover creation. Once this theoretical part is completed, we will work directly with Canva. The basics of Canva to know will be explained, before working on digital book cover projects. I will also explain how to create a paper book cover with Canva. Then you will learn how to create covers with Gimp. Gimp for creating more complex effects and offering other features. The basics of the software will be explained before working on concrete examples, again in ebook and paper book. I will show you how to have the right dimensions of a paper book cover using a cover model offered by Amazon.
