Under the Control of hazardous Energy - Lockout/Tagout standard all employees all into three distinct employee classifications.  The Authorized, Affected and Other employees.  The Authorized employee has been authorized by the company to perform the LO/TO on the equipment.  The Affected employee is the employee is is affected by the maintenance or servicing of the equipment.  These are typically the personnel who operate the equipment.  There are times when the company has chosen to trained the affected employee to also be the Authorized employee.  The last category is the Other employee.  The Other employee is anyone that is not the Authorized or Affected employee.  Regardless of the employee, it is very important to understand LOTO and not remove LOTO devices and locks while Authorized employees are working on the equipment.

Coordination with outside contractors is covered as these employees will sometimes augment the workforce or are brought to the facility for specialized maintenance and servicing of equipment.  Finally, the periodic program inspection is covered to ensure the program is running smoothly and to correct any gaps before a person is hurt.
