This topic is discussed by Sundaresan Krishnaswami, who is currently at IBM as a Test Architect. In here he discusses about evolution of modern APIs and their automation. The www world which we see today was not built in a day. The information which we now have available on our fingertips wasn't true 3 decades earlier. The way data is now stored, transfered and consumed has gone through a paradigm shift. From file storage to network to internet to iot devices to neural network, the revolution has been huge in the world of data, and behind this is the back bone of how easy its to consume, avail, transfer now using various protocols.

All this helps building and creating many webservices around it, which helps in various ways to different types of consumers. The various data protocols from html, xml, soap, json, to grapql we see various ways data can be architected in a manner to provide us information in fastest and most reliable manner.

There are many times of APIs now available and their testing brings different challenges around function, performance, security, reliability, which as testers we should be aware of so that we can test better.

Many programming languages and automation tools helps us achieve this but we should be aware of the evolution, the structure the challanges, the usage to design the scenarios better.
