How does the Bible define sin? Is sin just associated with bad thoughts and bad behaviors? How does the Bible define sin? We’ll look at sin from the perspective of the four principles established by God in Genesis 1 and 2, and how each of these were broken, as well as four relationships associated with humankind became destroyed (Genesis 3). We’ll also see how Paul defines sin in his letter to the Romans believers, focusing on the first three chapters.
How do we handle Matthew 5:20 where Jesus tells those gathered that unless their righteousness exceeds that of the most religious people in all of Judea—the Pharisees and the teachers of religion—they will not be participants in the kingdom of God! And then, in Matthew 5:48 he tells them they should be perfect, as God the Father is perfect! How do we become perfect in the eyes of God? This relates to our salvation—and the Bible has a great deal to say about this important topic. We’ll study salvation from election and regeneration, all the way to our bodily resurrection and glorification.
But we are not just saved for the hereafter. God has a plan and purpose for each one adopted into His family. The process of God working through us because of the Holy Spirit within us relates to our on-going sanctification. We’ll talk about this as well.
